Years after intense investigations and searches, it was revealed that Sherri made up the whole story and that she was staying with her boyfriend in Costa Mesa, California during her disappearance.

She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months in prison and posted $300,000 in bail in September 2022 to cover the costs of the investiagtion. Where is Keith Papini now?
Keith Papini still lives in Redding, California with his two children Violet and Tyler who he shares with Sherri. Keith allows Sherri to see his children with supervised visitation once a month, according to TV Insider.
As for his relationship with Sherri now, he says it’s “non-existent.” He told the outlet, “That communication we have is setting up phone calls or rescheduling phone calls. It’s not through voice. I don’t talk to her. It’s all messages. There was a time where I thought she might say something to me and explain something to me. There was a time where I wanted that, and I was so hurt.” He’s also staunch on not forgiving her. When asked if he’ll ever get around to it, he said, “I don’t think so.”
The documentary was a refreshing insight for Keith. In an interview with Good Morning America, Keith spoke out about how he was tricked by his own wife. “When I pulled back the curtains and I saw her, and I saw the look in her eyes, I felt in that moment that she was lying,” he said. “And it wasn’t until when I really got close and I could just see the amount of injuries, bruises, burns to her body, and it was a shock to me, and I remember thinking, how horrible of me to even think she could do this to herself.”
He was hesitant in participating in the documentary, but he wants to teach the public a valuable lesson about their partners. “I wanted to get the truth out there and really wanted to let everybody know how convincing Sherri was all those years and how I believed everything she was telling me,” he said.
