They’ve had beef ever since 2009 when she won Best Female Video over Beyonce at the VMAs and he interrupted her speech. But judging by Taylor Swift’s response to Kanye West’s namedrop in his new song “Carnival”, she’s put everything behind her.
“[Taylor] has so much on her plate and isn’t concerned with what Kanye is or isn’t doing,” a source told Us Weekly. “She has no plans on responding publicly or privately.” Another source said: “From Taylor’s point of view, this beef is one-sided. Kanye is trying to get back in the spotlight and an easy way to do that is through Taylor, who has completely moved on.”
“Carnival” is a track featured on West and Ty Dolla $ign’s album, Vultures 1, which dropped on Saturday, February 17. “She gon’ take it up the a— like a ventriloquist / I mean since Taylor Swift, since I had the Rollie on the wrist,” the x-rated lyrics go.
It’s not the first time Ye—is he still going by that name? idk—has dropped Swift’s name in a song. “I made that bitch famous,” he said in his song, “Famous”. He claimed she permitted him to name-check her, while Swift maintains she never approved of the line. West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, later shared a secretly recorded video of the duo’s conversation (illegal, by the way), leading Swift to request she be “excluded from the narrative.”
In a 2010 interview with New York Magazine, Swift explained why she wrote about a 35-year-old man “still growing up” in her song “Innocent” from Speak Now. “I think a lot of people expected me to write a song about [West],” she said. “But, for me, it was important to write a song to him. It doesn’t really add anything good if I start victimizing myself and complaining about things. Because I’m proud of that performance at the VMAs last year, where my fans helped me get through it.”
In 2022, Hollywood Life revealed that Kim had no hard feelings for Swift, who released Midnights in October 2021, which coincides with Kim’s birthday. A source told the outlet that Kim is “so glad all that bad blood is behind them” and that she, “doesn’t see this in any negative way whatsoever.”
The source continued, “What happened in the past is the past” and that, “Kim has moved on from this a long time ago. She wishes Taylor nothing but success and happiness.” The insider also confirmed that the KKW Beauty founder “really loves” Taylor’s music.
