Will Prince Harry Return to Royal Duties? Charles’ Cancer Diagnosis – StyleCaster

Ever since his royal exit, the potential for Prince Harry’s return to royal duties has been slim. But following King Charles‘ cancer diagnosis, some royal experts are saying that it could become a reality—even if only on a temporary basis.

The Duke of Sussex and his wife, Meghan Markle, announced their plans to “step back” from their roles as senior working members of the royal family in 2020. Since then, the pair have settled into their new life in California, where they continue to raise their two children: son Archie, who was born in May 2019, and their daughter Lilibet, born in May 2021. Prince Harry has never indicated a desire to re-enter the royal fold—especially as his feud with Prince William appears to rage on. Yet according to sources who recently spoke to The Times and Page Six, the Duke of Sussex would now consider returning to “help” his father following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.

According to the source who spoke to Page Six, Harry “would try” to return to royal duties if his father asked. “I have a hard time believing if his dad asks for his help that Harry would say no, I think he would try.” However, the source went on to note, “I don’t think it’s something that Harry would ask [to do] on his own.”

Meanwhile, sources for The Times of London believe that the move could make a lot of “practical” sense given the current circumstances. “On all practical levels, it makes perfect sense for the family to come together to support the King while he’s sick,” the insider said, adding: “Much has been said on both sides in recent years, but that has never diminished the fundamental bond of blood, and there are now pragmatic aspects to consider, with the King and Kate’s wellbeing paramount in this.”

The source went on to note, “The details of the Clarence House meeting and subsequent conversations are private, but the feeling is that this arrangement could work.” As for the meeting in question, Prince Harry recently visited his father in the U.K. soon after news of his cancer diagnosis began to make headlines. The monarch’s youngest son opened up about the meeting with his father during an interview with Good Morning America on February 16, 2024, revealing that he didn’t hesitate to book the first flight out to see the king. “I spoke to him. I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could,” Harry said. “Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

While only time will tell if Harry will return to the royal fold, one thing’s for sure—everyone in the royal family is rallying behind King Charles, now more than ever. The monarch, who announced the news of his cancer diagnosis via Buckingham Palace on February 5, 2024, has stepped back from his public facing duties as he continues to receive treatment for his condition.
