It was the most speculated guest appearance at the Super Bowl. We finally have an answer to why Justin Bieber didn’t perform with Usher at the Super Bowl. Though he wasn’t on the Apple Music Halftime Stage, the “As Long As You Love Me” singer was seen at the stands in Allegiant Stadium with his wife Hailey Bieber.
Per sources to TMZ, Usher talked to Justin Bieber about performing at the Super Bowl together. The gossip site said, “Usher reached out to Bieber about performing. We’re told there were no handlers involved on either side … they talked directly to each other.”
Usher has been a pivotal figure in Justin Bieber‘s career. The “Confessions” singer helped jumpstart the Canadian singer’s career when he was 13 as he signed him to Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG), a joint venture alongside Scooter Braun. Usher appeared on “Somebody To Love” on Bieber’s album Never Say Never (The Remixes) and they performed “OMG” together at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.
As soon as the Halftime Show ended, many fans took to X to express their disappointment in the Justice artist not appearing on stage. “bought paramount+ to see justin bieber perform for justin bieber not to perform,” one person posted. Another posted, “usher brought all those people on stage and not one of them was justin bieber,” referencing the appearances of Alicia Keys, will.i.am, Ludacris, Lil’ Jon, H.E.R. and Jermaine Dupri.
However with many talks, Page Six reported that Bieber just wasn’t in the mood to perform. “There’s no bad blood between Usher and Justin. Justin just wasn’t up for it — he just wasn’t feeling it,” a music industry source said.
Justin Bieber sent his support to the Super Bowl Halftime performer on Instagram. He wrote in the caption, “LOVE YOU MY BROTHER NOONE CAN SING AND DANCE THE WAY YOU DO. LOVE YOU FROM THE DEPTHS OF MY HEART. BROUGHT THE “A” TO THE WORLD, ONLY YOU BABYYYYYY 😘”
Though the couple was soaking up the Super Bowl fun. The Biebers were seen at Rubin’s star-studded Super Bowl Party Saturday at Marquee Dayclub at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
The “Stay” singer posted on his Instagram stories on September 6, 2022, that he’s taking a break from his Justice World Tour to focus on himself.
He posted the news on his Instagram stories with the following statement: “After resting and consulting with my doctors, family, and team, I went to Europe in an effort to continue with the tour. I performed six live shows, but it took a real toll on me. This past weekend, I performed at Rock in Rio, and I gave everything I have to the people in Brazil.” He continued, “After getting off the stage, the exhaustion overtook me, and I realized that I need to make my health the priority right now. So I’m going to take a break from touring for the time being. I’m going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better.” He added, “I’ve been so proud to bring this show and our message of Justice to the world. Thank you for your prayers and support throughout all of this. I love you all passionately.”
He previously postponed his tour after he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome in June 2022. He posted on his Instagram stories, “This is pretty serious as you can see,” he said as he showed his inability to wink or partially move his face. “I wish this wasn’t the case. But obviously, my body is telling me I need to slow down.” A source revealed to Us Weekly on June 15, 2022, that “Hailey has been an absolute rock. She’s by his side for whatever he needs, as are his other close friends and family. [He] has every faith this will resolve itself eventually, but of course, it’s a stressful situation to be dealing with and a tough time for both of them right now.”
Since then, Bieber has performed at one-off events like the NHL All-Star Weekend the week before the Super Bowl.
